This site is to inform people about what happen to me and my wife when we hired Michael Newberry in Rockport Texas
On May 21, 2015 Me and my wife decided to hire someone to remodel our shower. After getting a 2 other bids on the job my wife was contacted by Mike's wife Debbie that her husband does that sort of work and would like to help us. Mike came over and gave us a bid of $3,800 to do the job just the way we wanted it. We made the mistake of hiring mike to do this job. After a day or 2 he asked us to meet him at lowes in Aransas Pass, Texas to pick out the tile, shower head and so on. At that time we also made him out a cashiers check for 1,900 to get the job started and he gave us a copy of the contract that we signed. The next week 2 of his guys, one being James Newberry came by to remove the old tile and tub. This is where things started to seem....Shady. Mike showed up the first day for about 20 mins to show them what to do. After that mike was never seen again. his guys did about 3 hours of work in a 3 days time. After they gutted our bathroom shower. They never came back. When we called mike he would say that they would be there tomorrow at such time and so forth but they would never show back up. Then him and his wife went on a trip (im guessing with OUR MONEY) to Maine to see their other son. He told us that he would be back late Tuesday (6/2/15) and they would work on our shower Wednesday and get our shower done before Friday. Tuesday night I sent him a text asking him when they would be by so that my wife would be up when they got there. I work nights so I sleep till noon. No response. when I called. His phone was off I left a voice mail. So I waited a few hours then tried again. The phone rang but he did not pick up. So to say mike ripped out or tub and tile for $1,900.
We started asking around when things started to get shady and after talking to a bunch of people. mike has done this to people many times and they had sued him in small clams court. But all they could do is put a lean on his house. So in 30 or 40 years when and if he ever sells they might get back what he stole from them. We already gave him the money. We knew we would not get it back. We just wanted our shower done. The money we gave him was for a trip that we try and take every year to San Antonio so me and my wife can spend sometime alone together. But instead we thought we would remodel the shower and that would be the smarter thing to do. Instead we got robbed for $1,900.
Please do not make the same mistake as we did. Do not let this thief take your money and run. I learned the hard way. Due to there not being any websites that would warn you about him. I am making this one.
